Classroom Behavior Expectations
Each day when your child enters school, they are expected to be ready and willing to learn to the best of their ability. Throughout the day each child is expected to uphold certain school and classroom rules and regulations. These high expectations are set in place so that each child may grow academically and socially, all while staying in a safe environment.
Our class behavior chart hangs in the front of the room and shows how each child is doing for the day. All children begin in the center of the chart on "Ready to Learn". They may move up or down the behavior chart throughout the day based on the choices they make (see picture for specific levels). Moving all the way up to "Super Student" and "hitting their goal" results in a special reward. Your child's goal is set for them. Behavior goals are differentiated for each student. Each student is unique and has different needs. If a child moves down to the bottom of the chart to "Teacher's Choice", the child will either have independent play at recess time or silent lunch. They might be also be moved to an independent space in the room to work. If a child continues to make poor choices, he or she will move to "Parent Contact" and a parent or guardian will |
be notified via the "Reflection Sheet." This sheet goes home in your child's HW folder. The sheet is expected to be completed that night (both the writing and drawing portion) signed by a parent and returned to school the next day. Not returning a reflection sheet will result in independent play and silent lunch until it is returned. The purpose is of the sheet is for the student to reflect on their behavior and be aware of what they could do differently in the future. The reflection sheets are kept at school. Should their be a pattern of behavior that results in multiple reflection sheets, a individualized behavior plan will be established for your child and the information will be communicated with the administration team. It is our goal to help your child learn and be most successful at school, both academically and socially/behaviorally.
** It is important to check your child's HW folder each day for homework papers and/or a parent contact/reflection sheets. A reflection contact sheet will be sent home in their HW folder, if a child has not met our classroom and/or school expectations. Please sign the sheet, discuss it with your student, have your student complete the sheet, and return it to school the next day. **
This system encourages positive behavior and focuses on making improvements to better ourselves. We all make mistakes or have a bad day!
If you have any questions regarding your child's day/behavior system, please let me know.

Cafeteria Expectations

Bathroom Expectations
|
Students are expected to enter and exit the cafeteria in a single file, silent line. Students bringing their lunch from home are dismissed from line to sit at our designated lunch table (3rd from the back wall) first. Students are to fill in the lunch table one after another, making sure to not skip a seat or create a gap. Those students buying lunch will be dismissed to either get a tray, utensils, and milk and line up on the back side of the lunch line, or on the front side of the lunch line. Students buying lunch are expected to get all of their utensils, ketchup packets, water etc. while they are in line. Students bringing their lunch from home are expected to bring all the utensils and drinks needed for lunch from home unless students are buying a milk or water bottle etc.
Students bringing lunch from home should know how to open all packages and containers ON THEIR OWN. This includes thermoses, go-gurt yogurt containers, applesauce, etc. If your child can't open a package, then the food item should be transferred to a package that he or she can open on their own. Student are expected to eat their lunch while facing forward in their seat. Turning around to talk to another neighbor or turning to the side and leaning out of their chair to talk to a classmate not directly next to them is not allowed. Students often fall out of their seat or spill heir lunch when the do this and, therefore, this is not safe. During clean-up, students are expected to gather their trash and put their trash all the way into the trashcan. After their trash is thrown away, students are to remain seated without talking. Classroom Helpers each week will help clean the tables. After this process is completed, and the teacher arrives to pick up the class, all students should be silent and watching for their row to be dismissed to line up. The teacher will dismiss the students, one row at a time. Students are to stay in the same line and file into line on the hawk express at the front of the cafeteria without talking. |
Our class has designated bathroom breaks (during arrival, after specials, after recess and lunch, and during pack-up) where the whole class is allowed to use the bathroom. Students have been taught to use the sign language sign for bathroom in order to silently signal that they need to use the bathroom. Students are expected to stay quiet in the bathroom and not talk just like they do in the hallway. Students must wash their hands after using the restroom, and return to line quietly without disrupting the class. Students are expected to "try" even if they don't feel like they need to go. Bathroom trips during specials, instructional time, and lunch will not be allowed due to carelessness to try during designated breaks. If your child has a medical condition, there should be a copy of the health plan and doctor's note in your child "cum folder" that is kept locked in the office. This is how I will know if your child has a condition.
Hallway Behavior Expectations
Students are expected to walk in a single file line on the "hawk express" (purple tape). They are expected to face forward and keep their hands to themselves, still, and at their sides. Students are not allowed to talk in the hallway.
Water Bottles
Students are allowed to keep a water bottle at their seat that is closed and does not have a "screw" type of cap. Water bottles are allowed to be filled up in the morning during arrival, after lunch, and at the end of the day provided they are packed up and following dismissal procedures. Having a water bottle at their seat is a treat. As long as students can handle this treat and the water bottles do not become distractions or cause excessive trips to the bathroom, then they will be allowed to have a water bottle. Those students abusing this treat and using it as a toy, or become distracted with it, will have to keep their water bottle in their backpack and will only be allowed to use it for recess and lunch.

Room 313 Schedule 2014 - 2015 (as of 9/4/14)
DAILY 5 and CAFE
The Daily 5 & CAFÉ We have just begun our Daily 5 and CAFÉ adventure! This is the reading and writing program implemented in my classroom. Daily 5 is the structure we will use to plan our literacy block. Children will be busy completing meaningful literacy tasks and conferencing with me both by themselves, and in their reading groups.. The choices will be:
- Read to self
- Work on writing
- Word Work
- Listen to reading
- Read to Someone
Right now, we are focusing on
increasing our stamina to work independently. While the students are
completing their literacy tasks, I will be meeting with small groups
and conferencing with individual students to complete beginning of the
year assessments and testing that is required by the state and
county.Daily 5 is how we schedule our language block. CAFÉ is what we
study during this time. CAFÉ is an acronym for the four major
components of reading.

- C for Comprehension
- A for Accuracy
- F for Fluency
- E for Expanding Vocabulary
The children will learn reading strategies within each category. These strategies will become tools for the children to use to help themselves become better readers and writers. It is going to be exciting to watch your child's reading and writing skills blossom throughout this year!
If you have any questions regarding this program, please ask. I am always enthusiastic to share what I know about Daily 5 and CAFE!
